Who we are
Our vision is an Age Friendly Sutton, where older people know that they belong, and feel supported and valued.
The charity delivers a mixture of ‘on demand’ services, commissioned services, social and community activities, and is increasingly involved in local influencing and strategy. AUKS is the lead partner for the older people’s strand of the Sutton Plan, the local plan to develop services and improve life for all residents in Sutton.
Our services include information & advice, longer term casework to support people with complex issues, befriending, social, arts and exercise programmes, a home from hospital service, mental health and wellbeing support, Social Prescribing, and our Help at Home Social Enterprise which delivers a range of services to enable people to remain independent at home.
We are hoping to appoint up to two new trustees to complement the current Board in its role as a governing body: setting the strategy and ensuring sound governance and financial control.
We are keen to bring additional skills to the Board through the appointment of individuals who ideally have a background in one of the following areas:
- Social care
- Local government
We would particularly welcome applications from people who live or work in or near the London Borough of Sutton.
We will also be looking for a new Chair later in 2020, and would welcome expressions of interest at this stage.
Appointments are initially for three years, with the opportunity for re-election. Trustees are unpaid, but reasonable out of pocket expenses can be reimbursed. The board normally meets quarterly as well as an annual review and an away day. Trustees will also be asked to serve on a Board committee.
This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in helping to fulfil Age UK Sutton’s goal to make Sutton a more Age friendly place, and ensure that we achieve high quality older people’s services that are shaped by local needs and experiences.
Age UK Sutton is committed to equality and strongly values diversity.
