Who we are
The Armed Forces Education Trust is a charity working for children and young adults whose education has been compromised or put at risk as a result of parents’ past or current service in the Armed Forces. We Support Service Families with individual grants towards their children’s education. We also support Service Children in Schools with grants to help overcome any difficulties due to deployment, separation and transitions.
The role
- Are you passionate about the education of children?
- Do you have empathy for the Armed Forces and commitment to the cause of helping children whose education may be disadvantaged as a result of the circumstances of their parent’s service?
- Would you like to be part of our team of Trustees working to improve the lives of Forces Children?
We wish to invite applications from the widest range of possible applicants. The primary requirements are wise judgement, broad experience and common sense. Knowledge of the primary or secondary education sectors would be desirable as would some understanding of the Armed Forces.
The Trust is professionally run and the Board, with specialist advice is closely involved in the background of cases and decisions. The Trust is fortunate that it does rely on fundraising.
Candidates must show a willingness to contribute to our work and be able to attend five meetings a year, normally in London, with additional virtual meetings as required. Trustees are not remunerated but reasonable expenses are paid.
