Who we are
Background:
Progress Project was established in 1998 to develop activities & strategies which benefit disabled children & young people in light of exclusions and lack of appropriate provision.
Aims:
Disabled young people will have inclusive access to community activities, improving their health, skills, social connections & future prospects.
Activities:
1) Young People’s Forum for user-led programmes
2) Inclusive sports
3) Skills & development training
4) Peer2Peer volunteering
The role
Following a review of our mission, we are seeking creative and energetic people to guide the charity through the next 1-3-years as we develop new activities and opportunities for young people with disabilities in a post-COVID world.
Ideally, Trustees will have some experience of disability, or even be disabled themselves as we proactively encourage a user-led ethos; however, this is not essential to the role as we are fully inclusive.
Skills including project planning, financial management, consultation and measurement would be ideal; however, training and support will be provided; therefore, commitment to meeting monthly is preferred to in-depth skills, plus active experience of serving on a board is most welcome.
Whilst we are recruiting Trustees, we also welcome Shadow Trustees / Co-optees for people to join us informally with a view towards becoming full Trustees at a later date if they so choose i.e. we have a flexible approach.
We believe there is not enough community development taking place in Barking & Dagenham for disabled children & young people from all communities who experience a lack of available activities adding to their everyday exclusions, including ethnically diverse communities ….
…. we want this to change and you can help make it happen!
