BAMT is the professional body for Music Therapy in the UK, providing practitioners with professional support, and both practitioners and non-practitioners with information and training opportunities. We provide a voice for the profession, as well as for those who could benefit from music therapy. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

​BAMT is a charity and a company. The trustees of the charity are also the Board of Directors of the company. We are looking for a strategically minded people with skills in one or more of the following

– Finance

– Communications and Marketing

– Human Resources/Personnel Management

– Governance

Our philosophy as a Board is that we are each fully, engaged with and fully committed to BAMT, if this is not possible we step aside to make space for others who can bring this time and energy.

Applications are open to anyone and are also encouraged from Music Therapists with any of these skills and / or experience.

To ensure our board is as diverse as possible we are particularly keen to receive applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic people, people with disabilities, people who identify as being LGBTQIA+, people who experience mental health concerns.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The candidate must have:

• Significant experience and expertise in any of the skills required.

• Be able to demonstrate strategic thinking in a non-operational capacity.

• Commitment to the Vision, Mission and Values of BAMT.

• Willingness to meet the minimum time requirement to carry out the role described, estimated to be around 6 hours per month on average (or roughly two hours per week).

• Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties and responsibilities of trusteeship.

• Ability to work effectively as a member of a diverse team with good, independent judgement.

• Integrity.

It is desirable for the applicant to have:

• A high level of commercial awareness. • Effective communication skills.•

Good analytical skills.

WHAT’S INVOLVED IN BEING A TRUSTEE

​• The Board of Trustees meet four times a year between 6-8pm on alternating evenings (Tue, Wed, Thu), these meetings are currently held via Zoom. In additional each trustee is on at least one committee and these meet between four and six times a year via Zoom.

• All trustees are expected to participate in discussions and make decisions as required.

• Trustees may be contacted by the operational team for support in their specific area of expertise.

• Trustees serve for a term of three years and may not serve more than three terms without a period of at least a year out of office.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A TRUSTEE

• To keep up to date with all relevant areas relating to your area of expertise and how these impact BAMT & the wider profession.

• To be a source of advice and guidance to trustees and staff on matters relating to your expertise and ensure that agreed delegations are adhered to across the organisation.

• To actively take part in meetings and lead working groups as part of the new strategic development plan in order to help further the profession.

• To be an advocate for BAMT and the wider work of Music Therapy.

Following the closing date, we will shortlist applicants based on their ability to meet the person specification.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for interviews in March 2024.Interviews will take place by Zoom. The decision of the interview panel will be ratified by the Board of Trustees and subject to satisfactory references (which will be taken up following the decision of the interview panel and before Board ratification). Successful applicants are co-opted onto the Board ahead of a vote by our membership to elect them, held at the AGM. There will be an opportunity to meet with the Chief Executive and other core staff prior to the interview.
