Who we are

The British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) is a medical membership charity focussed on supporting its members to provide the best care and achieve the best outcomes for patients with gastrointestinal and liver diseases.

Founded in 1937, it is one of the UK’s largest speciality societies, holding representation within the British Royal Colleges, health service and government bodies, as well as at international level. It has over three thousand members drawn from the ranks of physicians, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, scientists, nurses, dietitians and others interested in the field.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for top-level governance, ensuring that key decisions made are in both the public, and BSG’s best interests. The Board works closely with the Executive Committee and the Council, both of which include medical professionals who develop strategy and input to medical governance.

The BSG is now seeking to build further on its skills by appointing two Trustees with leadership experience in a professional discipline or industry outside medicine and the provision of healthcare services, particularly those with an interest in HR, Law or Finance.

As a registered Trustee with the Charity Commission, you will have the opportunity to make a real impact through your contribution to the strategic direction and priorities of the BSG. You’ll achieve this through your attendance at Trustee Board meetings and Trustee Sub-Committee meetings, your liaison with BSG Executive, BSG Council and the BSG Chief Executive, and your valuable insight and advice. As such, the BSG is looking to see that you have a thorough understanding of the role of a Trustee in a charity and in the development of small organisations.

This is a three year appointment term with the opportunity to renew.

To apply, please provide a brief CV, and a covering letter setting out your experience and interest in the role. You can find a full job description and information about the BSG on our website - https://www.bsg.org.uk/jobs/member-of-the-board-of-trustees-layperson-non-member.html

An informal discussion with the President or other Trustees is welcomed.
