Who we are
The College of General Dentistry is a professional membership body for primary care dentistry, representing all members of the dental team. We serve the public, and set standards for the profession. We have a career pathway to support professional progression. We lead thought for the future of dentistry and are developing a proud community dedicated to promoting the standing of primary care dentistry. We are building towards achieving a Royal Charter.
The role
The Role
The CGDent Trustee Board has six members, three dentist trustees, and three independent trustees.
We are currently seeking an independent Trustee to join the Board and whose skills and experience will inform effective decision-making in the interests of the organisation.
The Trustee Board meets four times a year, most meetings are held online, and currently one meeting a year is held face to face, usually (but not always) in central London.
Skills
We are looking for someone who has an appreciation of the role of a Trustee in a modern charity and professional membership body, and ideally with experience of one or more of the following:
· Entrepreneurial development in a not-for-profit context
· Membership and professional body development
The College
This is an exciting opportunity to join the College Board at a key point in the development of the organisation. The College has been operating for two years, but builds on the 30 years of endeavour by the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) (FGDP(UK)), whose membership transferred to the College from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in July 2021.
As a new College we must secure our future, and continue to build and bring together the wider professional community in dentistry. We have already developed a lot of the infrastructure for this and our membership continues to grow. We have a focus on supporting professional and career development, and have launched a Career Pathway to support all members of the dental team.
Dentistry is rare amongst the healthcare professions in lacking its own college incorporated under Royal Charter, and so we are working towards becoming a Royal College for general dentistry.
