Who we are
The Crafts Council is the national charity for the UK craft sector.
We inspire making, empower learning and nurture craft businesses at a time when the public’s interest in making has never been more popular. With our new public space for craft opening and our fiftieth anniversary in 2021 this is a really exciting time to join the Board.
Our Trustees each bring their own skills, knowledge and experience to the role but we are keen to receive applications from individuals in any of the following areas.
Four makers representing a diversity of practice and disciplines sit on our Board as Trustees. We are looking to recruit a maker who would complement our current Trustees who work in ceramics and glass.
We are looking for up to two Trustees with knowledge and experience in any of the following:
co-creation and participation projects that address issues of social justice
primary or secondary education
support and development of micro/small creative businesses
You don’t need to have been a charity trustee before but you will be an active supporter and promoter of the Crafts Council bringing your particular expertise to the Board.
As a Trustee you will be committed to providing the management and staff team with constructive and objective advice so that the organisation can deliver our charitable objectives. You will also play a vital role advocating for the Crafts Council; supporting our fundraising activities and ensuring we fulfil all our legislative requirements.
We are committed to recruiting a board fully representative of the diverse community we work with. We encourage applications from currently under-represented groups on our Board and or in the sector: this includes women; people of B/black, Asian and ethnically diverse heritage; and those based outside of London and the South East.
