Our model is designed so that everyone wins: supportive careers guidance for students; training and development for mentors; access to a diverse talent pool for creative businesses.We believe that progress towards greater diversity, inclusion and equality needs to happen at junior and senior levels of the business.

Our mentor programmes support diverse talent at entry level and culture change at the top. Current partners include Sony Music, Amazon Prime Video, Google and Soho House.BackgroundCMN was set up in 2015 and received charitable status in April 2018. Since launch, CMN has worked with over 1500 young people and the same number of mentors.

We’ve had significant impact already, with 87% of mentees saying that mentoring made them more driven to create and follow up on career opportunities, and take initiative for their own career development. Mentees have gained placements and full time work at; Sony Music, BBC, Soho House, Endemol Shine, Google, Redbull, Universal Music and Havas among others.We’re a small but growing team made up of 8, full-time employees and a pool of freelance Training Associates.

Role Description

We are looking for a trustee to join our board, with a strong knowledge and experience of the legal sector. You will be working alongside CMN’s Chair and trustees (with expertise in marketing, finance, safeguarding and the third sector) to support the MD and CMN’s leadership team. You will share your network, legal knowledge and be an advocate for Creative Mentor Network.

The role will include

  • Ensuring CMN is complying with its governing document, mission and the law.
  • Supporting the executive team with ad hoc legal queries, for example on data protection and how to protect its intellectual property.
  • Supporting the MD to put in place appropriate contractual arrangements and ensuring templates are up-to-date.
  • Supporting the Safeguarding trustee lead on safeguarding matters.
  • Ensuring compliance with charity law and reviewing CMN structure and governance.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Extensive experience as a qualified lawyer (solicitor or barrister).
  • Experience of preparing and reviewing contracts.
  • The ability to communicate legal concepts to non-legal trustees
  • Experience and knowledge of the creative industries, charitable organisations and charity law.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience of being involved with a board Experience with working in or with charitable organisations

Time commitment:

  • The role will be for an initial two year term
  • The role requires the equivalent of around 1.5 days per month, mostly remote
  • Board meetings are normally 6 – 8pm held in Central London or online and run quarterly
  • Like most Trustee roles, this role is offered on a voluntary basis.
  • Reasonable expenses incurred conducting charity business will be reimbursed.
