Who we are

In 1974, David Morris, DSUK founder, asked “Why shouldn’t a wheelchair be on top of a mountain?”. Disability Snowsport UK’s vision is of mountains and ski slopes free from barriers, where disabled people can learn and take part alongside family, friends and peers.

Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK) is the leading adaptive snowsport charity which provides expert adaptive lessons throughout the UK, as well as delivering opportunities to ski and snowboard in a mountain environment worldwide.

From complete beginners to lifelong participants, snowsport enables disabled skiers and snowboarders to experience freedom, build confidence, health and wellbeing, and social support in everyday life. We work to ensure that everybody can take part in snowsport, regardless of disability, injury or experience.

About Disability Snowsport UK (DSUK)

DSUK has for over forty years’ provided the opportunity for so many disabled children and adults, to experience the thrill and independence that taking part in snowsports can provide.  Be it gentle assistance or using the quality specialist equipment we provide, our adaptive instructor team and volunteers can help make life changing moments for individuals and their families.

Snowsport can help build fitness and confidence, and it’s also a lot of fun. It can be a great way to improve strength, coordination and balance too. Our skiers and snowboarders talk passionately about the sense of freedom that they gain on the slopes.

It is our dream that mountains and slopes are free from barriers, where disabled people can learn and take part alongside family and friends.

The Role

The role of the Trustee is to ensure the activities of the charity support its purpose and serve the interests of its beneficiaries. Trustees provide strategic guidance, governance and oversight of management, ensuring the organisation is accountable and acting as a ‘critical friend to the CEO. They are there to protect the charities assets both physical and reputational. They make sure resources are managed responsibly and that the charity is run sustainably.

To complement our existing board and support our strategic direction, at present we are seeking Trustees who will bring knowledge, skills or experience in one or more the following areas:

·      Public Relations

·      Living with disability

·      Risk Management

Having our members’ voice represented at the board is important to us, so we would encourage people who have skied or snowboarded with us, or other adaptive skiers, to apply. Additionally, in the interests of board diversity we would welcome applications from young people and those from ethnic minority backgrounds.

Disability Snowsport UK is an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex/gender, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, marital status or age.
