Virtual / Online

We believe that being a Trustee of a charity should be an exciting and fulfilling role. We also believe strongly that the most effective Trustee Boards are ones which benefit from having people from diverse backgrounds, experiences and skill sets. We are seeking Trustees who can make a positive contribution to the Fair Credit Charity. You will be part of a charity that is not just influencing policy makers and industry on behalf of the people we represent; but also responsible for overseeing a Community Interest Company which is directly helping many low-income families obtain affordable credit

Who we are

The Fair Credit Charity was founded in 2015 for the public benefit to advance education in relation to money and debt management, relieve financial hardship and distress, and prevent and relieve poverty. Our mission is clear – we want to change the way the financial sector lends to lower income families in the UK, with easier access to a range of good value and ethical financial products and services that meet their needs.

The role

Do you care that we live in a society where the poorer amongst us actually pay more for goods and services than those who are better off? Do you care that our financial system is prejudiced against people who have no voice to push back against it? Do you care that for some people, there is no alternative than a loan shark if they need an emergency credit? The Fair Credit Charity is seeking Trustees from diverse backgrounds, experiences and skill sets who do care.

The Fair Credit Charity, which wholly owns the social lender Fair for You, was founded in 2015 for the public benefit to advance education in relation to money and debt management, relieve financial hardship and distress, and prevent and relieve poverty.

Could your strengths, skills or experience make a positive difference to the Fair Credit Charity, a successful charity with the simple, yet vital mission to campaign and develop better credit and financial solutions for low income households.

The charity works to educate consumers on what Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) can provide, as well as influencing how the financial sector lends to lower-income individuals and lobbying for greater recognition of the negative impacts on society of high-interest and predatory lending and the poverty premium.

We want to expand our Board of Trustees at the Fair Credit Charity and welcome applications from all age groups and backgrounds. In particular, we are looking for Trustees with experience in charity-related governance and risk management. This is a unique opportunity to speak out on behalf of people across the UK who are excluded from mainstream credit because of their circumstances.
