Who we are

At Flourish Mentors, we’re dedicated to making sure no young woman is invisible. We are a small but growing charity, registered in December 2021, and we offer free wellbeing support to young women – aged 16-25 – in Brighton and Hove, East Sussex. We are proudly LGBTQIA+ inclusive, and aim to help any young woman who comes to us, tackling their problems whether big or small, through individualised one to one mentoring and fun experiential workshops.

The role

Are you passionate about creating safe and supportive environments for young women? We’re seeking a committed and driven individual to join our Board of Trustees as our Lead Trustee for Safeguarding.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing oversight and guidance on Flourish Mentors’ safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring they are up to date, comprehensive, and aligned to best practice.
  • Reviewing and monitoring safeguarding incidents and concerns, and providing support and guidance to the Board, Co-Directors and volunteer mentors as needed.
  • Working with your fellow Trustees to promote a culture of safeguarding throughout the organisation, fostering both awareness and understanding.
  • Ensuring that all our staff and volunteers have the knowledge and skills they need to safeguard our mentees effectively.
  • Acting alongside the Co-Director for Safeguarding as a point of contact for safeguarding concerns and enquiries, liaising with external authorities as necessary.
  • Participating in quarterly Board meetings, and contributing to strategic discussions and decision-making.

Person specification:

  • Ability to commit up to three hours a week to the Lead Trustee for Safeguarding role – largely virtual, with occasional in-person activities.
  • Experience in safeguarding, child protection, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding principles, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations governing charity safeguarding practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Dedication to the wellbeing of young women.
  • Commitment to LGBTQIA+ inclusion.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, building trust and rapport.
  • Alignment to Flourish’s values of co-creation, playfulness, inclusivity, kindness and empowerment.
