Forest CLT is an energetic and ambitious community land trust based in Waltham Forest. Our mission is to provide 100% truly affordable housing for local people that, through an asset lock, will continue to benefit our borough for generations to come. We were founded in 2018 when two existing local housing groups came together with a shared desire to tackle the housing crisis with people power. We’re now a lively and growing membership organisation with around 150 members, including an 11-strong board of trustees and a range of smaller teams that work on different aspects of our projects, from architecture to outreach.
We are looking for a chair to help us articulate our vision and provide clear strategic drive to get us there. Our new chair will help focus the efforts of our busy and enthusiastic teams and ensure that everything we do takes us closer towards our goals. We also believe that Forest CLT will benefit from a strong voice and advocate for our work outside of our organisation to build and strengthen our relationships with key partners such as Waltham Forest Council and further raise our profile.
We are currently at an exciting point in our growth: having established a strong membership and local presence, we are now bidding for sites where we can realise our vision. This process takes time, and we are a few years away from opening the doors on our first homes, but in bidding for sites we are rapidly developing our capacity and capabilities to fulfil this need. This is a great opportunity to play a key role in an inspiring grass-roots community organisation as it becomes a fully-fledged provider of housing.
You will be able to represent and advocate for us at a senior level and take an overview of our wide range of activities. You will share our ethos and passion for community-led initiatives and will be a leader who works in a collaborative and inclusive manner. Experience in the housing sector is desirable but not essential. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills and will be able to fulfil the responsibilities of a board member of our organisation.
Forest CLT embraces diversity and promotes equality of opportunity. We are determined to reflect the diverse borough that we represent, and so welcome applications from candidates from all backgrounds and will choose a successful candidate without bias or discrimination.
