Who we are

The Friends of the River Crane Environment (FORCE) was formed in 2003 to protect and enhance the community and environmental value of the linear open spaces of the Crane Valley, with a focus on the London Boroughs of Richmond and Hounslow. For the past 20 years we have worked with a range of partners to improve the ecology of the river and its green spaces and to improve public access to them. We are an entirely voluntary, community-led charity with around 750 members.

The role

FORCE’s monthly Volunteer Sundays are one of the main ways in which we make a difference, maintaining open spaces, improving the river and clearing paths at various locations in Richmond and Hounslow Boroughs. We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised person to manage our monthly Volunteer Sundays activities which run from October to June each year on the second Sunday of the month.

The current Chair is planning to retire at the end of March 2024 after three years, having spent over twelve years as a trustee. We are seeking a new Chair to lead and shape the priorities and activities of the charity in delivering its environmental and educational objectives, working in partnership with local communities, local authorities, private-sector developers and stakeholders and other environmental groups.

More information about both opportunities is available on our website at:
