Who we are

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Community Foundation is an independent charitable foundation and the largest grant maker to specialise in awarding grants across Hampshire, including the cities of Portsmouth and Southampton, and the Isle of Wight.

We work as part of a national network of 47 UK Community Foundations that provide strategic charitable advice and grant making to positively impact local communities.

This is a voluntary role(reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed), which reports to HIWCF Chair of Trustees.

Please be aware we are looking for Trustees with specific skills in Charitable Grant Making and Marketing, PR and Communications.

• An understanding and acceptanceof the legal duties and responsibilitiesof being a Trustee and CompanyDirector

• The ability to provide an externalperspective and appropriatechallenge and support to HIWCF’sstaff team

• Good, independent judgement anda willingness to speak their mind butalways with respect.

• An ability to work effectively as amember of a team.

• A commitment to the sevenprinciples of public life: selflessness,integrity, objectivity, accountability,openness, honesty and leadership.

• To take part in an inductionprogramme to build their knowledgeof the organisation and to stay up todate with training as and whenrequired


• Experience of contributing to thedevelopment of strategy, businessplanning processes and strategicdecision making

• Experience of working with theThird Sector and/or a grant-makingenvironment

• Experience of operating at Board orsenior management team level

• Experience in one of our thematicareas which we would like tostrengthen – Grant Making and Marketing and Communications.
