The Organisation

The PA Foundation aims to develop and inspire people, particularly those facing disadvantage, to be the innovators and leaders of tomorrow, applying their ingenuity to solve the world’s biggest challenges.

The PA Foundation is an independent charity expanding access to quality education, skills, and careers – particularly in STEM-related fields – and working to address the underlying barriers holding people from disadvantaged backgrounds back.

Formed in late 2021, The PA Foundation amplifies PA’s volunteering efforts by providing grants to charities and non-profit organisations to make a real difference.

Since launching its operations in 2022, The PA Foundation has:

  • Distributed £3.3m in funding
  • Supported projects reaching >12,000 people facing disadvantage
  • Partnered with 41 charities and non-profits supported across the UK, US, Nordics, and Netherlands

The Role

The PA Foundation are looking for a passionate and collaborative independent trustee to join their board. Role responsibilities include:

  • To act solely in the best interests of the charity and not in the interests of the organisation that appointed them, as with any other Charity
  • To govern in line with our mission, values and charitable objectives
  • To protect the Foundation’s assets and make funding decisions which advances the Foundation’s objects as set out in the Articles of Association
  • To be responsible for ensuring compliance with charity law, company law, and all other statutory and regulatory requirements
  • To agree and set the strategy and vision for the Foundation and monitor performance against its strategic aims
  • To approve funding to charities and NGOs
  • To agree on the risk appetite and actively manage risk in accordance with the Foundation’s risk management policy including acting upon any serious incidents
  • To provide oversight and direction to the PA Secretariat / employees supporting the work of the Foundation
  • To agree any terms of reference which delegate decision making authority and oversee their operationalisation, reviewing any reports and minutes
  • To appoint auditors and monitor their work
  • To enthusiastically contribute in meetings and via email

The Person

The successful candidate will bring a connection with a STEM-related field along with:

Experience

  • Understanding of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
  • Understanding of critical issues and challenges facing the voluntary sector
  • Commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion

Skills & Abilities

  • A collaborative listener who works effectively as a member of a team
  • Independent judgment, a willingness to share opinions and an ability to focus on making decisions
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills
