Role Overview

As the Treasurer of Jewish Women’s Aid, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the organisation’s financial and governance requirements to ensure the successful delivery of its mission. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a thriving and dynamic organisation, working alongside the CEO and the dedicated team of volunteers and employees.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Oversight:

Oversee and present management accounts, budgets, and financial statements to the board of trustees.

Ensure that proper accounts and records are kept in compliance with regulatory standards.

Support the JWA staff with financial responsibilities.

Trustee Duties:

Actively participate in the organisation’s governing board, attending four Board meetings per year.

Chair four Finance meetings per year and attend four Strategic committee meetings annually.

Ensure good governance, legal compliance, and effective performance by addressing critical issues during Board meetings, seeking professional advice, and holding the staff team accountable.

Utilise your professional skills to support the organisation’s work.

Advocacy and Ambassadorship:

Act as an ambassador for the charity, representing Jewish Women’s Aid in high-level decision-making circles within the Jewish Community and the Domestic Abuse/Sexual Violence sectors and among your peers.

Attend and support the charity’s events and initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience:

Accountancy skills are essential for the role.

We are seeking a Treasurer with the following qualifications and attributes:

Experience and Skills:

Accountancy qualification and experience in management and financial reporting

Experience in year-end audit process and review of management & financial accounts

Experience working collaboratively in a team.

Experience as a charity Trustee (ideal but not essential).

Knowledge and Commitment:

A willingness to understand and appreciate the issues of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and its intersection with the Jewish Community.

Some experience of charity governance (ideal but not essential).

Good communication skills.

A sound understanding of financial management.

An appreciation of the need for Jewish Women’s Aid to grow and diversify its income.

Your expertise as a Treasurer will be instrumental in ensuring the financial well-being and success of Jewish Women’s Aid.
