Who we are
Kanaama Interactive Community Support (KICS) is a small development charity working in SW Uganda to reduce poverty in a rural sub county called Kashare. 20% of the population lives in poverty. Through our partner organisation KICS Uganda we run a microcredit and livelihood development programme, an educational support programme for orphans and vulnerable children, an adult literacy project, a menstrual health education project and water and sanitation activities.
The role
In the UK, KICS is currently an entirely voluntary organisation. All trustees, including the Chair, are expected to be involved in the practical side of running the organisation, including fundraising, communications, and administration. We have recently incorporated, becoming a CIO, and are carrying out a programme review with the aim of realigning our strategy. It is an exciting time.
The new Chair will have a pivotal role in leading the trustees and volunteers into a new phase which may involve geographical and financial expansion. They will have a crucial role in developing the relationship with our local partner charity which shares our name (KICS Uganda) and aims.
The new Chair will be important in forging new funding relationships.
In return, the new Chair will be privileged to closely observe our work with women and children living below the poverty line in Kashare sub-county, SW Uganda, in a range of activities, and to be part of an organisation which has been working for 14 years.
