Who we are

Welcome to Leeds Mind. The aim of our work is to help people build on their strengths, overcome obstacles, and become more in control of their lives.

We have faith and optimism in our clients and so the services we deliver are built around their needs. We support the people of Leeds to discover their own resources to ‘recover’ from periods of poor mental health, and to live life independently with their mental health condition.


The role

We want to ensure our strategy navigates challenges and more importantly enables the organisation to flourish increasing our reach and the difference we are making to people’s mental health experience across Leeds and West Yorkshire. Leeds Mind, is a local independent charity with an annual income for around £3.5million. We are affiliated to the Mind Federation.

Our staff team of over 100 people and 80 volunteers work across all our services in Leeds and West Yorkshire.

Chair:

The Chair or Co-Chairs will hold the Board and Senior Leadership Team to account for Leeds Mind’s mission, vision and strategic plan, ensuring that each Trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the organisation. The Chair will also support the Chief Executive and ensure the Board works closely with the Senior Leadership Team.

Treasurer:

We are seeking to add to the expertise of our experienced, professional Board of Trustees with someone who can maintain oversight of our financial affairs, and ensure we maintain our financial viability.

Trustees:

The role of the trustees is to govern the activities and affairs of the organisation. Specifically, trustees ensure Leeds Mind has a clear purpose and direction, is solvent, well-run and delivers its charitable and strategic objectives.

In particular, we are looking for our new Trustees to have skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Communications and marketing

• Equality and inclusion

• Income generation and strategic business development

• IT/Digital

• Commercial and financial strategy

• Therapeutic care and support commissioning

• Voluntary sector governance and management

• Organizational development and culture

Whether you are an experienced Trustee or wanting to take your first step at Board level, we want to hear from you.

We recognise the importance of having a diverse and inclusive Board of Trustees, and would therefore particularly welcome applications from the following, currently under-represented groups:

• People from culturally diverse backgrounds

• People aged under 35

Hours – Approximately 8 hours per quarter

Salary – Voluntary (expenses paid)

Meetings are hybrid with some face-to-face meetings on occasion/as required
