Who we are
Liverpool Biennial is the UK’s largest and longest running free festival of contemporary visual art. Since it was founded in 1998, Liverpool Biennial has worked with over 560 international and UK based artists and commissioned over 380 art works.
Following the recent completion of our 2023 festival, uMoya: The Sacred Return of Lost Things, we are looking to appoint several new Trustees in early 2024, to help Liverpool Biennial achieve its ambitious plans, and work towards realising our aspirations for Liverpool Biennial 2025 and the longer term. uMoya saw the Biennial return to pre-pandemic visitor figures, receive critical and peer acclaim and radically shift our activities in relation to access across the festival, working towards being a Biennial for everybody. We are looking for Trustees who will share our values, ensure best practice across the organisation’s activities and contribute to continuing to raise our profile nationally and internationally.
Diversity and inclusion are core values at Liverpool Biennial. We welcome applications from all sectors of the community, including applications from people of colour, Black, Asian and minority non-white groups, Indigenous people, Disabled people, people who identify as being LGBTQIA+ and others of any age, and young people aged 18-25, who demonstrate the ability to contribute to our vision of a diverse and inclusive community.
We are particularly interested in those who might be able to bring experience in, and an understanding of areas such as
- Higher education
- Creative practice
- Supporting and working with communities
- Safeguarding and wellbeing
- People and HR
- Finance, accountancy, business
- Leisure and tourism
- Digital innovation, media and tech
If you do not have expertise in any of these areas but feel that you have something exciting to offer the Liverpool Biennial, please do apply. We’d love to hear from you.
Please note that this is a voluntary role. Travel and other agreed expenses will be reimbursed, and the time commitment is roughly one half-day per month. Currently, Board Meetings are held in Liverpool and online, and take place four times a year.
