Who we are

The National Animal Welfare Trust is one of the UK’s top animal welfare charities operating five rehoming centres across the south of England. We also support small groups of volunteers providing care and rehoming services in Thurrock and in the Tameside region of Greater Manchester. The charity cares for and rehomes over 1200 animals a year and is active in all the local communities in which it serves.

The majority of NAWTs Centres used to be standalone charities but their founders or Trustees felt that they could give their charity a better future being part of NAWT. We are very proud of this approach as it enables an important community service to continue, and feel honoured that individuals have entrusted their life's work to us.

The Trust has a turnover in excess of £3.5 million per annum, employs over a 100 staff at our five rescue and re-homing centres and has an active supporter and volunteer base. NAWT has charity shops in Watford, Hayle & Woburn Sands to help further promote our work and raise funds.

We are particularly interested to hear from individuals with experience in the area of Veterinary Care or Animal Behaviour who can give freely of their time.  You will have a commitment to animal welfare, will complement the skills and talents of the existing Trustees, will think strategically, work collaboratively and be able to make a significant contribution.

Trustee meetings are held quarterly - currently twice virtually and twice per year in person near our Head Office, which is based at our Hertfordshire centre on the outskirts of Watford.

We are keen to enourage applications from people with strong connections and links to other parts of the country where we work - Berkshire, Cornwall, Essex and Bedfordshire although this is not a pre-requisite.

For an informal discussion please contact Rob Mitchell, Chief Executive, on 07814 903278 or by e-mail to [email protected].
