Who we are
Newington Green Alliance is a hyperlocal charity, founded in 2020 with the aim of improving life in the Newington Green Area through the development of strong communities.
Community has a potent impact upon a wide variety of social challenges. Extensive research has shown that strengthening community leads to better mental health, greater happiness, better educational achievement, greater economic strength and a reduction in isolation and crime.
In the past year, despite the limitations imposed by the Covid 19 pandemic, NGA has grown from nothing to over 100 volunteers with a range of projects.
We run a variety of projects, workshops and events including anti-racism training, listening-based events that enable participants to understand the lived experience of others, mentoring for young people, mental health peer support, and online conferences. Simultaneously, we have established volunteer capacities in finance, communications/marketing, project management, monitoring and evaluation, volunteer management/recruiting, and fundraising.
We have raised through six grants and have been part of a consortium of three charities to deliver food to people isolating due to contacts identified through the Test and Trace scheme.
We are seeking a one or more trustees to bring expertise and community representation to our board of trustees. We are especially interested to recruit Turkish, Kurdish, African Caribbean, south asian, and working class people to ensure that our trustees mirror the diversity of the community we serve.
Skills in fundraising, community building, policies, advice services, data protection, and in addressing poverty, food insecurity, racism, poverty, sexism, and/or classism would be valuable.
