Who we are
Avaaz—meaning “voice” in several languages—launched in 2007 to organize citizens globally to close the gap between the world we have and the world most people want. We have over 100 staff across 6 continents and annual revenues of $25-30m, funded entirely by small donations from members. For more information, please refer to our website.
Avaaz is a non-profit 501(c)4 corporation incorporated in Delaware, USA. Its Board of Directors oversees the organization’s governance, supporting its mission and ensuring accountability.
The role
We are currently seeking applicants for one (1) Director.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Understand and strengthen Avaaz’s mission, programs, and membership priorities.
- Provide fiduciary oversight, including critical review of the CEO’s Annual Plan, and approve budgets, audit reports, and tax filings.
- Offer strategic insights to enhance Avaaz’s financial systems, talent management, and risk management.
- Support and hold the CEO accountable, contributing to their annual performance evaluation.
- Attend board and committee meetings with enthusiasm and care.
- Ensure effective teamwork and uphold the values of a Board Member.
Desired Qualifications
- Extensive leadership experience in business, government, or nonprofit sectors.
- Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Experience in servant leadership, ideally in a member-led organization.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative and supportive approach.
- Integrity, wisdom, independent-mindedness, and passion for addressing global issues.
- Additional experience in organizational development, human resources, and/or digital technology and social media is a plus.
Remuneration
The role comes with a monthly stipend and reasonable expenses will be paid.
