SANSARA is a vocal collective making choral music that matters, giving voice to powerful human stories. Choirs are living, breathing instruments with unmatched expressive potential. SANSARA channels this creative force to present compelling choral experiences at the highest level, from intimate a cappella performances to immersive electronic soundscapes and critically acclaimed recordings. Our core projects fuse artistic excellence with social engagement.
The role
The successful applicant will use their specific skill set to:
- ensure that the organisation pursues its objects as defined in its governing document,
- oversee the strategic development of the charity in line with good practice,
- scrutinise and evaluate the impact of the charity, ensuring that all activities are appropriate.
All trustees are jointly and severally responsible for:
- the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity,
- its financial health,
- the development of its aims in accordance with the governing document, vision and mission.
We are seeking trustees with experience and expertise in at least one of the following areas:
- Fundraising: private, trusts and foundations, and corporate
- Marketing: public relations, business-to-consumer, social media, and arts
- Financial governance: accounting and audit

Qualities
Essential
- Demonstrable experience and expertise in one of the areas outlined above
- Commitment to the charity’s objects (see below), aims and values
- Commitment to devote time to carry out responsibilities and willingness to be available on an ad hoc basis for advice and enquiries
- Strategic and forward-looking vision in relation to the charity’s work
- Analytical and evaluation skills, sound independent judgment, impartiality and confidentiality
- To think creatively in the context of the organisation, including the conviction to make unpopular or challenging recommendations to the board
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
Desirable
- Prior experience as a trustee of a successful arts organisation
- Ability to connect the organisation with potential donors and/or corporate sponsors, industry contacts, potential partners/collaborators, established venues
- Knowledge of charity fundraising, financial management, safeguarding
- Knowledge and appreciation of choral music and a desire to drive innovation and change
