Who we are
We are an independent charity, originally established in 1996 by a group of people who were affected by eating disorders and who were concerned that they were not able to find helpful information, guidance and help when they needed it.
We provide non-judgemental support to people affected by eating disorders. This includes a range of eating problems.
The role
The Chair will lead the Board, the CEO and Leadership Team to ensure the effective delivery of the charity’s vision, mission and strategy and fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the charity. Through support and constructive challenge, the Chair will ensure the Board works cohesively with the CEO and the wider Leadership Team to achieve agreed objectives.
You will join SYEDA at an exciting point in our development and ambitions. Our move to new city centre premises in early 2024 has given us the space and facilities to further expand our activities and impact.
We have grown from a small team of 6, operating from Sheffield only to a staff team of 24 delivering services across the whole of South Yorkshire. We have seen a five-fold increase in our income and have moved from reliance on the outcome of funding applications to formal and long-term contracts with the NHS. We now offer a range of therapeutic interventions and treat more than 150 people per week. We are passionate about prevention and early intervention and have a deep-seated belief that recovery is always possible
