Who we are

The principal activity of Southern Africa Resources Centre (SARC) is Bristol Link with Beira (BLB) https://bristolbeiralink.org/. As part of a city-to-city link, we promote networks between organisations in Bristol in UK, and Beira in Mozambique, a Least Developed Country in sub-Saharan Africa. Beira is a coastal port increasingly vulnerable to extreme weather events. BLB facilitates projects to support the people of Beira and inform the people of Bristol, whilst targetting SDG 11 and SDG 17.

Bristol Link with Beira https://bristolbeiralink.org/ is supporting projects that are making real difference to the lives of people in Bristol’s twin city Beira, Mozambique, whilst raising awareness in Bristol about how global issues of Social Justice and Climate Change affect Beira. BLB has been involved in projects in Bristol and Beira for many years, and aims to continue mainstream project support in the fields of:

• Education and Health

• Community and Civil Society

• Culture and Sport

BLB is targeting SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals. We work through non-profit organisations in Beira and the civic authorities.

We are looking for volunteers based in or around Bristol, who are passionate about environmental and social justice. Experience and/or knowledge of Sub-Saharan Africa is welcome but not essential, as are Portuguese language skills. Previous board/trustee experience is not necessary, and we welcome applications from all ages and backgrounds.

Trustees pro-actively contribute to our activities by joining a Working Group: Projects or Operations. The Trustee Board meets every other month, alternately virtual and in Bristol. Meetings are held outside working hours.

Trusteeship can be good for personal and professional development, as a tool to gaining new skills or achieving a more a positive well-rounded balance in their life. Being a trustee can help you be happy!
