Who we are

Stonepillow support and empower homeless and vulnerable people to achieve sustainable independence and wellbeing. Founded in 1989 as St Richard of Chichester Christian Care Association as a registered charity, and in 1991 as an Association Limited by Guarantee, we more recently rebranded ourselves as Stonepillow. We employ around 100 members of staff and our workforce is supplemented by relief workers and volunteers who are dedicated to providing support for our clients.


The role

Stonepillow is operating in an ever changing environment, and we are now reviewing and developing our next three year strategy to run from 2024 to 2027. To support this strategic review, we are seeking to recruit new trustees who will strengthen our Board in their challenge to lead our direction of travel.

Over 100 effective and highly skilled Stonepillow staff have supported 900+ people in the last year across our range of services in Chichester and Arun. Supporting those who are homeless and have multiple disadvantage we provide a wide range of services spread across our five pillar value proposition: to

Prevent homelessness and rough sleeping
Relieve homelessness and rough sleeping when it occurs
• Support people to Recover from homelessness and issues that may have caused or been a result of homelessness and rough sleeping
Resettle people into new, sustainable homes.
• Enable people to Restore their life and achieve their full potential.

Stonepillow has grown over the last four years and in particular post pandemic. Increasing numbers of people are accessing our services as a result of Covid and the cost of living crisis, and with increasing levels of mental ill health, substance misuse. We have expanded our services to provide bespoke support for those suffering from health inequalities, leaving the criminal justice system, at risk of losing their home, young people leaving care and asylum-seeking children. We are committed to ensuring our clients are empowered to achieve their full potential; through the support of our services and the myriad of partner organisations with whom we collaborate.

Who we are looking for?
We are seeking four new Trustees and a Chair who share our values; who are committed to our cause and understand the crucial role that a Board of Trustees plays in the governance of a charitable organisation. We seek candidate willing to bring energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.

We are particularly looking for Trustees who have skills/ experience in the following areas:

• Housing – both management and development
• Health – which may include mental, clinical or community health operational or strategic experience
• Fundraising – with particular focus on major donors

You do not need previous governance experience – we will provide a full induction and training.
