Who we are

Kent Downs Trust is an ambitious new independent charity established to deliver a positive change in one of the country’s most beautiful but most threatened landscapes.

The Kent Downs landscape and aspiring cross-channel UNESCO Global Geopark is nationally recognised and protected because of its outstanding special and varied characteristics. The KDT develops activities that protect the landscape and enable everyone to access the health and wellbeing benefits of the countryside.

The role

The The Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is nationally recognised and protected because of its outstanding special and varied characteristics, from the simple lines of the gently sloping terrain to the rich tapestry of farmland, woodland, wildlife and small historic villages that decorate it. Now, also internationally recognised as an Aspiring Cross-Channel UNESCO Global Geopark due to its underlying Geodiversity – from the iconic White Cliffs of Dover to wildflower-rich chalk grassland and rare chalk streams.

We believe that the health, educational and wellbeing benefits of being in natural beauty and amongst wildlife and nature, are for everyone who works, lives or visits the Kent Downs landscape but we know barriers prevent some people from accessing the countryside.

We also know that nature is under threat as it meets new pressures of climate change and unprecedented population increase and the precious natural world in Kent needs our care and attention.

The Kent Downs Trust is poised to embark on an ambitious new phase of its development to meet these challenges, and we need new Trustees to help take turn our plans into realities.

About the role/what we are looking for.

We are looking for individuals who are interested in helping the development of a young charitable organisation. One which works across the whole of the Kent Downs AONB area with conservation, environmental and community partners, with a commitment to support conservation, education and heritage and to broaden the AONBs reach to the wider community in Kent and elsewhere.

Please note: there is no fixed deadline for recruitment, we will review applications on a first come, first served basis.
