Who we are

Founded in 2008, Switchback is now a £1.2 million a year, award-winning charity with a team of 24 brilliant people, consistently delivering sector-leading impact through its pioneering long-term work with young Londoners leaving prison. Crucially, the young men we support, Switchback Trainees, remain at the heart of everything we do. We’re proud to have supported over 530 young men to change their lives through our intensive programme, and we’re determined to reach many more.

The role

Switchback is an
award-winning charity supporting young Londoners to find their way out of the
justice system. We’re looking for up to four new Trustees to join our Board,
providing insightful governance to lead Switchback’s pioneering work driving
change across the justice system, with the voice of young prison-leavers at the
heart.

This is an exciting
opportunity to join Switchback’s Board as we support a talented and committed
team to deliver on our 3-Year Plan. We’re focusing on building our capacity to
support more young men become Switchback Trainees and growing our influencing
impact, including tackling social and racial injustice. To succeed, we must
diversify our income and work even more collaboratively with statutory,
corporate and voluntary sector partners. Can you help us by bringing your relevant
experience and passion for a just society to our Board?

We are now seeking
new Trustees who can bring experience in any of the following:

growing a
not-for-profit in scale and income;

strong connections
with the private sector to attract funding, as well as creating new training,
employment and experience opportunities for Trainees;

safeguarding
expertise; and/or

influencing for
systemic change around racial and social justice.

We’re also determined that
our team is more representative of our Trainees, so we’d love to hear from
people from Black or Asian backgrounds or with lived experience of the justice
system. All appointments are made strictly on merit.

The role would suit people either
with previous board experience or first-time Trustees. Training and on-going support
are provided for people new to Board membership, and we encourage all Trustees
to shadow the team in prisons or at our training partners to learn about the
work in detail. This is an exciting period of growth and development at
Switchback as we pursue our ambitious new 3-year plan, A Platform for Change. Join us!
