Who we are

The Tetley is a pioneering centre for contemporary art located in the stunning art deco headquarters of the former Tetley Brewery. From the heart of Leeds' South Bank, we create a platform for amazing emerging artists, present breathtaking free exhibitions and help communities and young people in Leeds find their creative voice.

The charity that operates The Tetley, Project Space Leeds, was founded by artist/curators, Pippa Hale, Kerry Harker and Diane Howse in 2006, and artists remain at the centre of everything we do today. Proudly investing in new and emerging artists to create work, we fulfil a vital role within the Leeds art scene, offering a significant public platform alongside outstanding national and international work, often presented in the UK for the first time.

For artists, we are mentors and champions, providing support, investment and development time and space. To the public and our communities, we are a destination to explore new and exciting works, enjoy great food and take part in workshops, talks and events.

Over 120,000 people each year visit the Tetley to discover, create, relax and learn and we believe that everyone deserves to explore their cultural potential no matter their economic background, from messy play workshops for the under-fives, to professional artists at a pivotal point of their career.

Trustee Role

The Tetley seeks upto four trustees to support the charity by: - Giving overall governance to The Tetley, setting the direction and overseeing its activities - Ensuring The Tetley is always working towards its charitable objectives outlined in its governing document - Advocating for The Tetley’s vision, mission and values internally and externally - Promoting and enabling equity and diversity

As a trustee you will do this by being: - Committed to The Tetley and its purpose - Prepared to make strong and constructive recommendations, and willing to speak your mind - Available to staff for advice and enquiries on an ad hoc basis - Able to give the necessary time to being an effective trustee (i.e. attending quarterly Board meetings, participating in sub-committees and attending major events – between 4-8 meetings per year). You do not need any prior experience of being a trustee, The Tetley provides a full induction for every new trustee.

Person specification

In accordance with The Tetley's skills audit, it is particularly seeking trustees with the following skills and experience: - Accountancy and audit (professionally qualified accountant to lead audit committee) - Capital development - Connections to communities in Leeds - Environmental sustainability - Commercial skills (particularly food & beverage, events, retail) - to sit on the board of our trading subsidiary

The Tetley does not expect individuals to meet all these priorities, but hopes to appoint a diverse cohort who collectively address the above skills and experience.
