Who we are
The Wilfred Owen Association's aims are to foster the memory of the First World War poet Wilfred Owen and to celebrate his life and poetry. The Association publishes a Journal twice a year, containing articles by members and others, focused on Owen's life and work but also including news items, book reviews, occasional pieces of poetry and correspondence. It also runs events with presentations by historians and other members of the academic world on topics of interest to the membership. It maintains special links with places connected with Owen, including Shrewsbury (where once Owen's family lived and where there is a memorial to Owen in the grounds of Shrewsbury Abbey) and the town of Ors in northern France (near where Owen was killed and where a museum has been established in his memory. The Association awards a biennial poetry prize to poets whose writing includes work on the subject of war.
The Association is looking for a well motivated and responsible person to become its new Chair, with a keen interest in supporting the aims and work of the Association, in fostering the memory of the First World War poet Wilfred Owen and in celebrating his life and poetry.
It is also seeking a new Trustee with particular responsibilities for upgrading and maintaining the Association's website, and for promoting and developing the use of social media amongst its members and others.
It also seeks another new Trustee with a particular interest in helping to arrange meetings and other events for members.
