TramShed are an inclusive theatre company based in Blackpool. What started as a small grass roots charity 17 years ago, has now grown into a well-respected, dynamic and developed organisation. Driven by the voices of our community, we break down social barriers and social exclusions in all its forms. Unequivocally inclusive, TramShed is a place where differences are always accepted and actively celebrated.
The role
TramShed is an inclusive theatre company based in Blackpool with members across the Fylde coast and beyond. TramShed were established in 2005 and pride ourselves in offering the highest standard of inclusive performing arts workshops, performances and training. Our Mission To bring individuals together to create outstanding, original and beautiful theatre which inspires and celebrates everyone.
Our Vision A self-sustaining independent organisation with a large active membership and key community partnerships. Widely recognised for dynamic delivery of exceptional inclusive activities by a robust and experienced leadership team. Varied and well- resourced ongoing workshops covering all aspects of performing arts, inclusive training, regular inclusive performances and an extensive programme of outreach within schools and community organisations.
Who we are looking for:
We are particularly interested in those with experience in finance, education and with specific arts experience whether as a performer, practitioner, or manager – especially those who have experience of theatre in education programmes.
We are committed to broadening the diversity of our Board of Trustees. Although we welcome all applications, the Board is under-represented in relation to the profile of the community we serve and we would encourage people from the following areas of protected characteristic groups to consider applying: people of colour, residents from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, people with disabilities (including ‘invisible’ disabilities or neurodiversity such as autism and dyslexia) and LGBTQ+ residents.
Time commitment
This role requires a commitment of approximately two-three days per year.
You will be required to attend five Board meetings per year, each lasting 2 to 2.5 hours; this includes the TramShed AGM. You will also be required to attend one away day meeting per year, to help shape strategic documents. The Board meetings take place at 6pm on an agreed week-day evenings at Woodlands school in Blackpool and/or via Zoom.
Expenses
This is a voluntary role, without a salary, but reasonable expenses incurred in relation to the role may be claimed back from TramShed Theatre Company. These include: travel, phone calls, childcare or care of other dependents whilst attending meetings.
Eligibility
Candidates need to be at least 16 years of age. To ensure the organisation remains independent, candidates must not:
· Be a current employee
Candidates must be legally eligible to become a Charity Trustee and Company Director, i.e. you must not:
· Have an unspent conviction for an offence involving dishonesty or deception (such as fraud)
· Be declared bankrupt (or subject to bankruptcy restrictions or an interim order)
· Have an individual voluntary arrangement (IVA) to pay off debts with creditors
· Have been disqualified as a Company Director
· Have previously been removed as a trustee by the Charity Commission or the High Court
· Be disqualified or barred from acting as a trustee of this charity under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006
