Our Board of Trustees currently has eight independent members, and we are looking for up to two new Trustees to join us and sit on the Board. The Board is responsible for the overall governance, monitoring and strategic direction of UCEM.

Who we are

University College of Estate Management (UCEM) is long-standing and leading provider of supported online education. We exist to provide accessible, relevant and cost-effective education which enhances careers, increases professionalism and leads to a better Built Environment; we are also very passionate about sustainability. Operating from the UK and Hong Kong we have a global reach, and at any one time over 3,500 students are studying online with us.

The Board works together with the Executive Team to ensure that the charity achieves the objectives defined in our Royal Charter and operates in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, including the Office for Students (OFS), the Charity Commission and Ofsted. In addition to this, the Board contributes to ensuring that our institution meets the expectations of the Higher Education Code of Governance.   

We have recently conducted a skills review within our current Board membership, and have established that we are specifically looking for at least one new Trustee with expertise in one of the following areas:


  • Senior level experience in the Property or Construction sector
  • PropTech
  • Sustainability
  • Digital and Data


However, if your area of expertise is not specifically within one of the listed areas but you feel you can contribute to the work of UCEM your application may still be considered.


As a Trustee, you will be expected to attend Board of Trustee meetings (4 per year), plus an additional strategy day. There will also be an opportunity for you to be involved in a Sub-Committee to the Board (for example, the Finance Committee). Involvement in a Sub-Committee/Working Group will require you to be available to attend approx. 4 additional meetings per year, which are usually held remotely.


Our office is located in Reading, Berkshire and the meetings are held either in Reading, or London. Sub-Committee meetings are usually held remotely.


It really is an exciting time to be joining us as a Trustee. You will have the opportunity to make a valuable contribution in shaping the future of UCEM, as we work to implement our vision to be the Centre of Excellence for Built Environment Education.
