Who we are

We are the central hub for volunteering in Kensington and Chelsea, recruiting, developing and placing volunteers in the local community since 1969.

We exist to champion rewarding volunteering opportunities and promote volunteering as a force for change and social good. Our mission is to build the capacity of local people and organisations by empowering our community to realise their potential through volunteering.

The role

​Our Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, developing its aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the charity’s governing documents, legal and regulatory obligations and guidance. The trustees are also the company directors of the organisation. The Board supports the Volunteer Centre’s work and provides mission-driven leadership and strategic governance as well as financial oversight. Trustees are also responsible for taking reasonable safeguarding steps to protect from harm people who come into contact with the Centre, including clients and staff (whether paid or unpaid). We are therefore seeking the following professional experience, skills and qualities in our trustees:

Professional skills

· Strategic development and planning and/or

· Financial management and/or

· Legal environment for charities, in particular HR and safeguarding


· Enthusiasm for supporting volunteers and volunteering

· A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to attending meetings, reading and assimilating Board papers, and/or providing necessary governance support

· A knowledge of or interest in the voluntary sector

· A knowledge of living or working in Kensington & Chelsea (desirable)

Skills and abilities

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

· Analytical ability and good independent judgment

· Capacity for clear, creative and strategic thinking and vision

· A willingness to contribute your opinions

· An ability to work effectively as a member of a team
