Who we are

Waterwise is the leading independent voice in the UK for using water wisely, for the benefit of people and the planet. Our vision is that water is used wisely every day, everywhere, by everyone. We are the UK’s conscience on water efficiency, on behalf of people and the planet, and are experts in water efficiency policy, regulation, research, behaviour and campaigns. Waterwise is a people-led organisation which prioritises the wellbeing of its staff.

The role

Our Board members all want to make a difference. When we meet, we have lively debates and aren’t afraid to voice our views, but all in support of the work the Waterwise team does and the critical issue of using water wisely.

We are seeking three new Board Members who between them or in combination can provide some or all of the following:

  • A contribution to our Board’s diversity of perspective – we welcome applications from anyone with a passion for our vision and work, and from a wide range of skills and experience, and we particularly welcome applications from members of groups which are under-represented on our Board, namely from candidates who are disabled, LGBTQ+, aged 18-30 or people of colour or of wider ethnicities than White British
  • Expertise in marketing
  • Expertise in law
  • Expertise in the retail sector
  • Digital and innovation expertise
  • Expertise in the energy sector

We are looking for people who can act as advocates for Waterwise and who will be committed to our mission and approach. Our approach to equity, diversity and inclusion, and staff wellbeing, underpins our work, and we expect all our Board Members to demonstrate a personal commitment to equity, diversity and wellbeing and to staff wellbeing.

If you’re keen to volunteer your time to make an impact and be inspired by the incredible team at Waterwise, we want to hear from you! Previous Board experience isn’t required.

How to Apply

To apply for this role, you will need to answer role-related questions. We are using an anonymised platform to help to debias the recruitment process as far as possible. Instead of a CV and covering letter, you will provide evidence and examples from your work history or other aspects of your life to answer the questions and demonstrate how you meet the criteria required. Full details can be found here in the candidate pack.

Please click here to apply. The closing date for applications is Sunday 29th October 2023

The Waterwise Chair, CEO and other Board Members will be holding a 30-minute drop-in session for you to ask any questions about Waterwise and being a Waterwise Board Member, on Thursday 11th October at 2.00pm, on Zoom. You can register here. This session does not form part of the selection process – it is an opportunity for potential candidates to find out more about us.

We want you to have every opportunity to demonstrate your skills, ability and potential; please contact us if you require any assistance or adjustment so that we can help with making the application process work for you.

Interviews will take place on Monday 4th December and Thursday 6th December, via Zoom.
