Who we are

Harbour House is a contemporary art and wellbeing centre in Kingsbridge, South Devon with a simple mission: to enrich the lives of the people in our town and surrounding communities. How do we do this? Through an inspiring and inclusive programme of exhibitions, performances and educational activities that invite everyone to participate. We’re also here to support your wellbeing with a range of flexible spaces dedicated to yoga, movement and mindfulness.

The role

Who are we looking for?

This is a critical time for the Harbour House Trust as we move from a founder-funded model to a self-sustaining approach drawing on a range of funding sources. Over the last year we have started the journey towards this by clearly articulating our charitable objectives and vision, professionalising our programming, reviewing and, where necessary, beginning to upgrade our venues and spaces, and ensuring compliance with Charity Commission standards.

Our dynamic board of trustees boasts a range of background, skills and experience and we are keen to further diversify and strengthen this to help us achieve our goals. We’re looking to invite two more trustees to join us.

Ideal candidates will have an interest in the arts and movement for wellbeing, but above all a commitment to working collaboratively both with the other board members and the community of Kingsbridge and surrounding areas. We especially encourage those who live locally to consider applying for one of these roles.

Specific attributes that we will be looking for through the application process include:

  • Ability to collaborate and work as part of a team

  • Creative and strategic thinking

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion

  • Ability to build trust and respect

  • Understanding and acceptance of a trustee’s legal duties and responsibilities

  • Willingness to invest the necessary time and effort required

  • Commitment to the positive development of Kingsbridge and the surrounding area

We are seeking one trustee who can take on the role of Treasurer. For this role, the selected person will need a strong background in finance, ideally within the charity sector, and we will prioritise applications from individuals who have previously served in the role of treasurer for another board or similar organisation.

The second trustee role is more general, but we especially welcome applications from people with trustee experience, used to operating at board level, and who have experience in the areas of fundraising, marketing and communications and/or community engagement.

The Trust is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion and we welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds and ethnicities, people from the LGBTQ+ community, younger people and people with disabilities.
