The New Normal are seeking a Chair for our Board of Trustees! The primary responsibilities of which are providing leadership, advocacy, strategic direction and governance oversight for the charity.

Who we are

The New Normal (TNN) provides free to access peer support meetings for bereaved adults. We provide 25-30 completely free peer support meetings per month, in person and online, serving a diverse range of grief experiences, identities and communities. We train existing communities to hold space and help build compassionate communities through workplace training.


The role

The Chair of Board provides leadership, strategic direction, and governance oversight for the Charity. They ensure that the board functions effectively, that the organisation remains true to its mission, and that it meets its legal and ethical obligations.The Chair acts as the primary liaison between the board and the Charity’s Leadership Team, ensuring a collaborative and supportive relationship.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Governance – Providing leadership to Board, overseeing vision and strategic direction, ensuring compliance with all legal, financial and regulatory obligations, and maintaining the Charity’s mission, vision and values.

Board & Organizational Oversight – Effectively chairing Board meetings, fostering inclusive and engaged culture, ensuring contribution and collaboration, and oversight of trustee recruitment and onboarding.

External Relations & Advocacy – Serve as ambassador, representing the Charity in public and private settings, building and maintaining key relationships with stakeholders, donors, funders and partners, and advocating for mission.

Fundraising & Financial Oversight – Supporting Treasurer with development and implementation of fundraising strategies, financial sustainability and donor engagement.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

Commitment of approximately 4-6 hours per month and eligible to serve as a Trustee (in line with Charity Commission).

Essential Skills & Experience: Strong leadership, facilitation, and decision-making skills. Experience serving on Trustee Board, in governance and strategic planning. Excellent communication and public speaking skills. Understanding of financial management, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement. Passion for the Charity’s mission and commitment to long-term success.

Preferable Skills & Experience: Experience as a Chair on a Trustee Board and in non-profit sector.
