Who we are

Caxton Youth Organisation is a specialist youth club for learning disabled and autistic young people aged 11-25 in Westminster.


The role

What will you be doing?

You will work alongside our Chair and Board of Trustees to ensure strong governance of Caxton, as well as taking a lead role in managing the organisation’s financial assets.

·Present clear financial reports to the board.

·Keep the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities and liaise with the CEO to develop the financial understanding of the Board.

·Lead the Finance, Risk and Income Generation Subcommittee.

·Collaborate with external advisors (e.g., independent examiner, accountants).

·Support budgeting, cash flow, reserves, and financial planning.

·Ensure robust internal financial systems and controls.

·Advise on fundraising and income generation strategies.

·Monitor financial viability and advise on strategic financial planning. Advise on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process.

·Ensure investments and assets are maximised.

·Lead independent examiner appointments and liaise with them.

·Ensure that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by relevant statutory bodies, the Charity Commission and Companies House.

Essential Safer Recruitment Criteria

1. A cleared Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at an enhanced level. This check is necessary as the work involves dealing with or having access to children and vulnerable adults whilst undertaking normal duties.

  • Clear communicator, especially with non-finance audiences.
  • Willing to engage in budgeting, forecasting, and collaborate with our accountants.

Time commitment:

  • Quarterly board meetings.
  • Quarterly subcommittee meetings.
  • Ad hoc meetings with CEO, Rose Swainston.
