Children of the Dump helps transform the lives of children living in poverty near the old rubbish dumps of Payatas and San Isidro in Manila, Philippines. These children grow up in some of the toughest conditions imaginable. With access to education, they have the chance to build a better life
Since 1975, Children of the Dump, a UK based charity, has worked with a trusted local partner, ASCF, a team of trained Filipino professionals who understand the needs of the community.
The role
A new key trustee role for this very active children’s
fundraising charity ensuring that the business of the Board of Trustees is
effectively scheduled, that agreed actions are followed through and that
compliance with the Charity Commission and other regulations is maintained.
Through maintaining the annual calendar, arranging and
supporting Trustee Board meetings and producing action orientated minutes you
will maintain the momentum of the charity whilst ensuring regulatory
compliance. Following the retirement of the Vice chair the role has been
extended putting an increased focus on administration with the objective of
releasing time of the Chair and other Trustees for fundraising activity
To act in the
role of Chair for any Trustee meetings that the Chair cannot attend.
To produce short
action orientated minutes of meetings. The meetings are usually held on Zoom
and AI draft notes are available.
To maintain and
update the Board Action log.
To maintain the
Board meeting calendar, draft agendas for meetings and distribute Board meeting
papers
To oversee and
maintain the charity’s registration with the Charity Commission, ensuring that
all submissions are completed and dispatched to the timetable.
The
role-holder will be a full trustee of the charity, taking a role in its
leadership and governance and supporting its fundraising activity.
Strong organizational, administrative and MS Office skills,
plus a high level of commitment and reliability are essential. To be effective
you will need good influencing skills to keep Trustees focused on task and
goals. A passion for improving the lives of Children will motivate you in the
role. Experience of the charity sector and of Charity Commission regulations
would be an advantage.
The Board of
Trustees meets for three online meetings a year typically of two and a half
hours’ duration. There is one additional online finance meeting of an hour and
a half and one Saturday half day meeting in Surrey a year. There are also
monthly online fundraising group evening meetings lasting one hour.
The role will require at least 2 days a month with flexible evening hours
