Who we are
Breakthrough is a campaign accelerator – providing people with direct experience of social injustice the support, tools and network they need to lead campaigns and achieve impact. We seek out and identify high potential grassroots groups focused on some of the most pressing social justice issues of our time and give them hands-on support, help them develop and execute a winning strategy and connect them to the world-class network they need to win change.
The role
This is a unique opportunity to join an exciting organisation working at the forefront of some of the UK’s most important social justice issues – at an early stage of its development. Helping to establish the organisation on a sure-footing and ensuring it will realise its full potential.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Breakthrough is a non-profit organisation, registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee. The registered company name is Impact Accelerator Ltd.
The board has collective responsibility for the strategic direction of the organisation. Every Board Member is also a director of the company and has legal responsibilities and potential liabilities. Directors’ insurance in place.
Duties will include working with the Board to ensure good financial oversight of the company, support the Executive Director with financial planning and risk management. You’ll use your own skills, knowledge, and experience to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions, and provide input and guidance, particularly in those areas where you have specific skills, knowledge or expertise to help Breakthrough realise its mission.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
We are working to put together a high-level board with a range of skills and experience. To that end for this role we are seeking someone who has experience across financial management and operations, ideally with experience in the charity or social impact space.
You’ll be able to advise the rest of the board on financial oversight, and support the Executive Director with financial planning, operations and risk management.
We are committed to being representative of our society and bringing together those with a variety of skills and experiences to shape what we do and how we work. In line with this, we are particularly keen to hear from people of colour; people from working class backgrounds; people from LGBTQ and immigrant communities; and people with disabilities.
COMMITMENT REQUIRED
There will be 4 board meetings a year, with the majority conducted in person in London, with zoom options available as well. The overall time commitment is on average 1 day per month. This is a voluntary, unpaid appointment, although reasonable travel expenses will be paid.
