Who we are
We are a small art based charity, based in High Barnet
The role
The site of our studio is currently part of a planned housing development, which will involve the Guild moving to a new, purpose-built studio on a different site.
The Guild is in a financially stable position and our expenses are carefully monitored to make best use of our resources.
Our committee is currently formed of six members of the BGA, most of whom carry out specific roles within the Guild.
We are a forward-thinking organisation that seeks to work with our members to deliver activities, while fulfilling our obligations set by our constitution.
To further acquaint yourself with the functioning of the Guild you can get a flavour of who we are from our website https://www.barnetguildofartists.com.
Person Specification
As an Art Guild we would have a strong preference for Trustees with an interest in, and knowledge of this sector, though not necessarily as a practitioner.
We would also have a preference for applicants with previous experience of being a trustee, however we will consider all applications, particularly if you have any experience, or knowledge of, either finance or law.
Personal Skills
During this time of change for the Guild it is essential that our Trustees have a range of personal skills to help guide us through this transition. This will include:-
· Being approachable and having good communication skills
· Having the ability to be a strategic thinker
· Be prepared to act as part of a team that holds joint responsibility.
· Have enthusiasm for, and commitment to the role.
· Be able to foster a culture of involvement with both the Trustees and the wider membership.
Job Specification – main duties
You will be working as part of a group of Trustees, and attend meetings with them, to ensure that the Guild is carrying out its duties in accordance with our Constitution. This will include ensuring that the Guild is using its funds in developing the organisation as described below.
( to advance education in all the visual arts for the public benefit in particular, but without limitation, by means of lectures, meetings, demonstrations, workshops, exhibitions, and the provision of facilities for the practise of the visual arts )
As a Trustee you will jointly oversee the Guild’s financial records on an Annual basis, as required by the Charity Commission. The AGM must receive the annual statement of accounts (duly audited or examined where applicable) and the trustees’ annual report.
Terms of Appointment
You will be required to be available to carry out the role for a 3 year period.
Time Commitment
You will be expected to attend regular meetings with both Trustees, and the Guild’s committee. In addition, there will be ad hoc meetings to discuss the implications and legalities of the proposed move to a new studio.
