Who we are
The Brighton Natural Health Foundation (BNHF) works to make Brighton a happier, healthier and more connected city by providing free and accessible mindful-movement classes—including yoga, qigong and Pilates—to people who face the greatest barriers to wellbeing. Our mission is to remove financial, physical and cultural obstacles so that everyone, regardless of circumstance, can access practices that support long-term physical and mental health.
The role
Role DetailsWorking with the BNHF Director, the Board and external bookkeeper, key aspects of the role include to:Financial Strategy & Oversight
● Provide clear financial guidance to the Board, enablinginformed, strategic decision-making
● Lead on financial governance, ensuring the charitymeets its statutory obligations
● Monitor reserves, cashflow and financial risk, advisingon mitigationBNHF Governance/Legal Trustee Role December 2025
● Ensure robust systems for financial management andcontrols, record-keeping, and compliance
● Oversee the development of the annual budget andadvise on long-term financial planning
● Act as chair of the Finance & FundraisingSub-committeeFinancial Operations
● Oversee the charity’s external bookkeeper and Xeroonline accounting system
● Manage the charity’s bank/merchant accounts andpayments approval system
● Oversee HMRC account including PAYE and gift aid
● Review and approve key payments, contracts, andfunding agreements
● Advise on any financial matters relating to contracts,partnerships and employment legislationFinancial Reporting
● Oversee the preparation of year-end accounts andensure timely completion of regulatory filings
● Present quarterly financial reports at Board meetings inan accessible format
● Liaise with external accountants or independentexaminers as requiredFundraising & Sustainability
● Work closely with Fundraising Trustee and advise onfinancial implications of funding bids,grants and new projects
● Help assess the viability of new initiatives, partnershipsand services
● Provide insight into pricing, cost structures, financial riskand sustainability planningTrustee Responsibilities (all trustees)
● Attend and actively participate in Board and relevantsub-committee meetings
● Provide constructive challenge, oversight and support tothe senior team
● Act in the best interests of the charity and itsbeneficiaries
● Promote the charity externally and help build a strong,positive reputation
