Who we are
Brightside is on a mission to help young people make confident and informed decisions about their future. For over 20 years, we’ve used technology to connect young people facing barriers with inspiring mentors. We deliver online mentoring programmes in collaboration with schools, universities, businesses and charities to provide young people with access to networks, online career information and high-quality mentoring.
The role
As our Fundraising Lead Trustee, you will act as a critical friend, offering insight and challenge to help the organisation develop effective fundraising approaches. While operational fundraising activities will be carried out by the staff team, your guidance will be invaluable in strengthening our fundraising strategy and increasing our income from corporate partnerships, trusts and foundations, and individual donors.
Key Responsibilities
· Strategic Fundraising Oversight: Support the development of a sustainable fundraising strategy that aligns with Brightside’s objectives. Chair the Fundraising sub-committee
· Critical Friend Role: Provide constructive challenge and advice to the leadership team on fundraising initiatives and income generation.
· Governance & Compliance: Ensure that Brightside’s fundraising activities adhere to ethical and legal best practices.
· Board & Staff Engagement: Work collaboratively with fellow trustees and fundraising staff to strengthen Brightside’s fundraising capacity.
· Network & Influence: Where appropriate, leverage personal and professional networks to open doors to potential funders, partners, or supporters.
· Monitor & Evaluate: Support the board in assessing the effectiveness and impact of fundraising efforts, ensuring they align with the charity’s strategic goals.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for a strategic leader with:
· Experience in fundraising, income generation, or business development (corporate, trusts & foundations, philanthropy, or digital fundraising).
· A strong understanding of fundraising governance and best practice.
· The ability to provide strategic insight rather than operational support.
· A passion for social mobility and supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
· The ability to act as a constructive and supportive critical friend to Brightside’s leadership team.
· A willingness to contribute to board discussions and engage with fundraising strategy development.
