Communigrow is a sustainable food education charity based in Kent. At our community garden, we teach people how to grow chemical free food, using the therapeutic benefits of gardening to bring about positive change to physical and mental wellbeing.

Who we are

Communigrow is an award winning horticultural charity reconnecting people with the growing of food using sustainable methods. We offer educational opportunities and outdoor activities for adults and young people. We provide the inspiration that encourages and promotes learning, personal development and achievement for those facing a variety of challenges and vulnerabilities. Our aim is to engage the whole community in responding to social disadvantage and in promoting health and wellbeing.


The role

We are looking for someone who has experience in finance with an accountancy background.

?We are a national award winning charity and we have ambitious plans to build on our successes over the next five years.

Over recent years, Communigrow has achieved impressive successes and increased its services and activities and with it, its numbers of beneficiaries and volunteers.

The finance trustee role is an important role which helps shape the future of the charity, ensure its sustainability for the future, provide an oversight of our financial affairs, monitor its financial viability and ensuring that proper financial records and procedures are maintained. In addition to an accountancy background, experience of the UK charity sector is preferable but a previous role as a trustee is not essential.?

All trustees are expected to have:

  • A commitment to the charity’s objectives, strategic vision with good, independent judgement and an ability to think creatively
  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties and responsibilities of a trustee in the charity sector.
  • Excellent networking, influencing and communication skills.
  • An understanding of the challenges facing small to medium UK charities in maintaining financial sustainability.
  • An ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
