Who we are

Dance Network Association (DNA) is a dance charity that enables people to live more connected, joyful and aspirational lives through dance.

Dancing with DNA provides opportunities for people to improve their confidence and physical wellbeing, nurtures creativity and independent thinking and enhances friendships through social interaction.

The role

We seek individuals to join our voluntary Board of Trustees at a crucial time in our development. Having evolved from a CIC to a charity in 2023, we are now ready to grow and seek new trustees to help us support our ambitions.

We would love to hear from people who represent the diverse communities with whom we work. You might be someone who identifies in one of the following ways:

· Lives with a health condition

· Cares for someone with a health condition

· Is disabled

· Is working class, or comes from a working-class background

· Comes from, or whose heritage derives from the Global South

· Is a member of the LGBTQIA+ community

Your interests, skills and knowledge might include, but are not limited to:

· Dance

· Creative health and wellbeing

· NHS, social care and health contexts

· Physical activity

· Financial planning and management

· Fundraising and development

· Legal

· Marketing

· Digital knowledge and innovation

· Human resourcing

Our trustees need to:

· Be committed to implementing governance

· Be willing to support the organisation by offering information and guidance in their areas of expertise

· Advocate for the organisation to support us in raising our profile

· Value honesty, have integrity and be open

· Demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and access

We especially seek trustees who have professional experience or backgrounds in finance, marketing, legal, health (NHS) and social care. However, if these areas of expertise don’t fit and you are still interested in investing your time in supporting us, please do consider applying.

What is the commitment?

We hope to have at least two new members join our board, one for a length of 3 years and one for a length of 1 year. This is to help us ensure that we stagger length of service and subsequent recruitment for members of the Board in the future. We would like our new Trustees to be in their positions by the start of our new financial year, August 2025.

· Meetings and governance

The Board will meet for a minimum of four meetings per year. Meetings will be approximately two hours in duration, once per quarter via video conferencing. One of these meetings may include an in-person away day (lasting up to 7.5 hours) to support the strategic development of DNA. Dates for meetings and away days are organised in advance; some preparatory time may be necessary to read background papers and other organisational information.

· Advice and support

You will be expected to be open to providing advice and support for the Chair and CEO, relative to your skill set. This is likely to equate to a maximum of one hour of your time per month.

· Experience and celebration

You will be invited to DNA’s sessions and performances to help celebrate and experience the work we do first-hand.

This role is voluntary. However, we are able to offer reasonable expenses.

How to apply

If you are interested in becoming a Trustee for DNA, please email the Chair of the Board, Elsa Urmston elsa@dancenetworkassociation.org.uk with the reference ‘Board Application’ in the subject line. We welcome written and video applications. In your application, you should outline:

· Why you would like to join DNA’s Board of Trustees

  • The skills, knowledge and experience you have which you feel you can usefully bring to this role

· An up-to-date CV or summary of your experience

· The time you would be able to offer any support each month as well as the scheduled Board meetings

Please attach the completed DNA Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form (2025) to your email.

If you have any questions before applying, or require information in an alternative format, please be in touch with Elsa and we will do our best to accommodate you. Similarly, if you have any access needs, please contact Elsa for a confidential, informal conversation.

The deadline for applications is Monday 14th July 2025, 12 noon.

Once received, we will review your application, before inviting those we are interested in speaking with further to an interview. We will email you on Wednesday 16th July if we would like to invite you to interview.

Interviews will be held online with Gemma Wright (CEO) and Elsa Urmston (Chair). Interviews will be held on Friday 18th July. Please tell us if you have any access requirements for interview.

Successful applications are subject to a 6-month review to ascertain suitability for the role, after which positions are confirmed on a permanent basis for the duration of the term or terminated.
