Who we are

OUR PURPOSE: We believe when positive role models are actively present; children, families, and communities thrive. We work alongside families by encouraging men to be a mentor to the boys in their life. We offer a diverse programme of opportunities for men and boys to have fun, take part in adventurous activities together, and enhance their own and wider family relationships.

MAN&BOY, a dynamic charity committed to strengthening family relationships, is searching for dedicated individuals to join our Board of Trustees and help guide our future, as we consolidate our work and look to reach a wider audience.

National attention has recently turned sharply towards the challenges boys are facing, powerfully shown through the Netflix drama “Adolescence”, Sir Gareth Southgate’s widely praised Richard Dimbleby lecture, and the Centre for Social Justice’s “Lost Boys” report outlining how boys are being left behind in every area of society.

At MAN&BOY, we have seen that when positive male role models are actively present in boy’s lives, children, families and communities thrive and for over a decade we’ve worked alongside families to support men to become the mentors boys so desperately need, particularly as they enter the often-turbulent stage of adolescence.

What do we do. MAN&BOY work to enhance family relationships, between boys who may be struggling with life and a significant male in their lives. This could be the biological father, but could be a stepfather, grandfather, uncle or even an older sibling. Our program uses diverse activities where the man can be a role model to the boy, based on fun, encouragement, trust and open communication. We generally focus on boys between the ages of 8 and 11 years of age, prior to them entering the challenges of adolescence and secondary school.

Role of a Trustee: As a Trustee for MAN&BOY, you will play a vital role in steering the organization toward greater success. Your responsibilities will include:

· Strategic Leadership: Provide guidance and contribute to the strategic direction of the charity.

· Advocacy: Advocate for the importance of Man-Boy relationships and the positive impact on family dynamics.

· Governance: Ensure the organisation operates ethically and within legal and regulatory frameworks.

· Networking: Utilise your skills and connections to enhance our reach and impact.

What Are We Looking For: We are seeking at least 3 new Trustees, including a treasurer, who are passionate about family values and committed to our mission to create a brighter future for boys and their families. Ideal candidates will:

· Share our commitment to strengthening family relationships.

· Bring expertise in a wide variety of areas including finance, technology, social media and social or psychological care. In particular we are seeking someone who could fulfil the treasurer’s role.

· Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills.

· Have a genuine interest in making a positive impact in the lives of fathers and children.

Who we are looking for: We value diversity of thought, skills, and experience. We particularly welcome applications from women, people of colour, members of the LGBTQ+ community, individuals under 30, and those with lived experience in challenging family environments.

What are the requirements: Our board meet quarterly, usually alternating between in person (near to our base in Kingston Upon Thames) and online, with the meetings taking place on weekday evenings. In addition, the Board and Director will look for your engagement and commitment in specific areas of work that your skillset, knowledge, network and passions lend themselves too, on an ongoing basis.
