Who we are

Men Who Talk is a registered charity, founded in January 2022, with a mission to improve men’s mental health through accessible, stigma-free peer support groups. We also run engaging events and create content to raise awareness about mental health issues affecting men.

Our charity was established in response to a clear and urgent need: in the UK, men account for 75% of all registered suicides, yet only 36% of NHS therapy referrals are for men.

The role

Men Who Talk is recruiting up to three new Trustees to join our board as we enter an exciting period of growth. We’re specifically seeking individuals who can lead on one of three portfolios: Fundraising & Individual Giving, Business Development & Partnerships, or HR & Volunteer Management. This is a chance to play a meaningful role in a bold, ambitious charity tackling the men’s mental health crisis through free peer support groups. We welcome applications from diverse backgrounds, including first-time trustees.

We’re looking for 2–3 proactive, strategic individuals to join our board of trustees. While all trustees share collective responsibility for governance, strategy, and financial oversight, we’re particularly seeking people who can take a lead on one of the following portfolios:

  • Fundraising & Individual Giving – providing strategic oversight of our income streams and helping us move beyond grant dependency toward sustainable individual giving and community-led models. You’ll work alongside freelance experts who handle execution.
  • Business Development & Partnerships – helping scale the trading side of our charity, including corporate workshops, training packages, and institutional partnerships with universities and employers.
  • HR & Volunteer Management – acting as a strategic advisor for our growing people operations, working closely with our Operations Manager to support a community of 60+ volunteer facilitators.

The board meets quarterly, alternating between online and in-person meetings in Central London, with the time commitment up to 8 hours per month. Additional sub-committees may be established as we grow. The minimum term is three years.

We’re looking for people who bring strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and genuine passion for men’s mental health. Previous trustee experience is welcome but not essential — we value strategic thinking, relevant professional expertise, and a willingness to get stuck in. We particularly welcome applications from diverse communities, and the role is open to all, including female-identifying individuals.

Trustees benefit from an annual training and development budget, the chance to represent the charity at events across the UK, and all out-of-pocket expenses covered with prior approval.

We encourage potential applicants to read the attached Recruitment Pack for more details before applying.

Once you’re ready to apply submit your CV and a cover letter to trustees@menwhotalk.org.

Applications are to be reviewed on a rolling basis throughout the year recruitment period.
