NUS Charity’s mission is that every post-16 student in the UK has an amazing students’ union
We’re a registered charity owned by our members: students’ unions. We’re responsible for supporting the development of SUs throughout the UK.
We work with our partners, including NUS UK and SOS-UK, to build a more active and resilient student movement.

NUS is looking for passionate and committed individuals to join our boards and committees as voluntary members. Whether your expertise lies in finance, HR, governance, campaigning, or organisational development — or you’re someone who simply believes in the power of students to make change — we’d love to hear from you.
We are currently recruiting for the following roles:
- NUS Charity Trustees (2 roles)
- Finance Committee Members (3 roles)
- HR Committee Members (3 roles)
- NUS UK Lay Director (1 role)
Each of these roles is vital to ensuring our organisations are well-governed, future-focused and capable of delivering real impact across the student movement.
About the Roles
NUS Charity Trustees
As a Trustee, you’ll contribute to strategic leadership, oversee finances, and ensure the charity is fulfilling its purpose of supporting strong and sustainable students’ unions across the UK.

Finance Committee Members
Help guide and scrutinise NUS’s financial health — from audit and risk to budgeting and long-term planning. We’re seeking financially literate individuals who can bring confidence, rigour and collaboration to our Finance Committee.

HR Committee Members

NUS UK Lay Director
Join the NUS UK Board as an independent director, supporting governance, strategy and accountability. This role is ideal for someone with experience in campaigning, communications, legal affairs, or non-profit leadership.

We’re seeking to recruit the widest possible pool of talent across all roles. Whether or not you’ve held a board or committee position before, if you bring relevant expertise, lived experience, or a fresh perspective, we’d love to hear from you.

- Legal, strategic or governance experience
- Communications, campaigning or public affairs knowledge
- Experience within the charity, education or membership sectors
