Who we are

Packed Lunch Productions is a registered charity and social enterprise dedicated to advancing the arts through visual storytelling and fostering human and social capital through creative expression. Our mission is to nurture learning and growth through creation, and we do this by providing platforms for new voices and creating opportunities for personal and professional growth, all while promoting a wider public engagement with storymaking.


The role

The duties of the chair include:

  • ​providing leadership to the organisation and the board, ensuring that everyone remains focused on the delivery of the organisation’s charitable purposes to provide greater public benefit;
  • chairing and facilitating board meetings;
  • directing board policymaking;
  • checking that decisions taken at meetings are implemented;
  • representing the organisation at functions and meetings, acting as a spokesperson as appropriate; and
  • bringing impartiality and objectivity to decision-making.

With the CEO, their role involves:

  • planning the annual cycle of board meetings and other general meetings where required;
  • setting agendas for board meetings and other general meetings;
  • developing the board of trustees, including induction, training, appraisal and succession planning; and
  • addressing conflict within the board and the organisation.

Where staff are employed, their role involves:

  • liaising with the CEO to keep an overview of the organisation’s affairs, providing support as appropriate;
  • leading the CEO appraisal process and providing support where needed; and
  • sitting on appointment and disciplinary panels.

The chair should possess the following:

  • Leadership skills
  • Experience of committee work
  • Tact and diplomacy
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Impartiality, fairness and the ability to respect confidences.

It is desirable for the chair to possess:

  • knowledge of artistic creation and/or education, in line with the organisation’s passion for advancing visual storytelling and its mission to nurture learning and growth through creation and
  • wider involvement with the third sector and other networks.
