Who we are

LAH is a strategic London-based ACE funded charity that bridges arts and health. Our mission is to harness the power of culture so that the lives and health of all Londoners can be transformed and enriched. Committed to inclusion, transparency, collaboration and collectivity, our team of expert staff, together with our strong Board, connect with partners in London and beyond to uplift and support grass-roots practitioners and local organisations engaged in making people\’s lives healthier.

The role

London Arts and Health is a charity that supports artists, creative practitioners, community-based organizations and health professionals across the whole of London and beyond. We promote excellence and engagement in the field of Creative Health, and extend the reach of the arts to communities and individuals who would otherwise be excluded. Through our activities, we work to propagate and support the understanding of what the arts can do to contribute to a healthy society, in London and nationally, and by so doing encourage the use of the arts in settings beyond the mainstream. We are the leading support sector organisation, advocate and expert for Creative Health in London.

Our values include dynamic, collective, transparent, collaborative and inclusive leadership and partnerships.

As well as partnering community-based arts and culture organizations we work closely with key strategic organizations such as the Arts Council, the GLA, Universities and Health Care organizations to create and circulate evidence of the effectiveness of creative health for communities, for individuals and for economies. So as well as promoting creative health we build, grow and innovate through our work with others in ways that address issues of social disadvantage and social injustice.

Our staff includes a CEO and a Research and Program Director together with freelance specialists. They are responsible for the day to day running of the organization and work closely with our Board on LAH’s strategic direction. The Board is responsible for the charity’s governance, financial viability and for ensuring LAH fulfils its mission, keeping strategy sustainable and relevant as at the same time as meeting its values.

We are seeking to strengthen our board with a trustee who brings commercial, entrepreneurial, legal or HR expertise. The ideal candidate will offer fresh insight, help support our long-term sustainability, and contribute to the development of new opportunities. We particularly welcome experience in areas such as business development, income generation, legal representation of underrepresented groups or social enterprise, combined with strategic thinking, collaborative governance, and a genuine passion for the role of the arts in promoting health and wellbeing.

The Board meets 4 times a year, has an AGM and an awayday: the work for the Board would involve around 3 hours per month.

We actively seek applications from disabled, LGBTQIA+, diverse or underrepresented individuals. We are committed to equity in our organisation and seek to live these values in our board and wider team. The role is voluntary but LAH remunerates travel expenses, caring and access expenses for board members. Our board meet once each quarter and we have a mix of online and in person meetings throughout the year.
