Some of our longstanding members have retired so we are inviting new members to join us. We are interested in hearing from people with a range of skills and experience and are keen to diversify the current committee.

Who we are

We are an independent home improvement agency established in 1993. We offer advice and practical support with home repairs and adaptations that allow older people, vulnerable people and those living with a long term health condition live safe, secure, warm and independent in their own homes for as long as possible.

We are a Registered Society with Charitable status under the Co-operative and Community Benefit Societies Act 2014, no: 27847R


The role

For an effective management committee, we require our members to have experience in any of the following areas:

· HR.

· Fundraising.

· Legal.

· Finance background.

· Health, Social Care and/or safeguarding – particularly in relation to older, vulnerable people and those living with a long-term health conditions.

· Lived experience of the issues we help with.

· Marketing, press and public relations.

· Housing.

. VCFSE experience/knowledge

Essential:

· Commitment to helping people to stay independent in their own homes.

· Capacity to take in complex information presented orally or in writing.

· Capacity for strategic and critical thinking.

· Objectivity, impartiality, and independence of mind.

· Ability to act as a member of a team.

· Commitment to debating issues openly and to challenging colleagues and/or employees appropriately.

· Ability to recognise and deal with potential conflicts of interest.

· Ability to make decisions based on a clear understanding of the organisation.

Desirable:

· Experience and knowledge of good governance gained in the voluntary, public, or private sector.

· Leadership experience in a large organisation.

· Willingness to commit extra time to serving on sub-committees to which the Preston Care & Repair Management Committee makes appointments, and/or to working groups and/or advising the Executive.

Time commitment:

There are approximately 4 x 1.5hr Management Committee meetings a year, held during office hours (08.30 – 16.30), plus an approx 1hr Annual General Meeting.
